Score by quarter:
Waterville 6, 13, 5, 15
Manson. 11, 7, 6, 12
First of all I really have to give Waterville credit, they have
improved so much this year. They really took advantage of our foul trouble in the second and fourth quarters. Waterville's crowd was amazing, that was one of the loudest, most excited and into the game crowds I have seen in a long time! They totally gave Waterville a true home court advantage. The nice part was that they were loud, yet still classy. That was just the way it is supposed to be when you go to an opponents gym.
Foul trouble really hurt us and helped them. Hailey Ellsworth and
Itzel Castro got early fouls in the second quarter and had to sit the majority of the period. During the time Hailey was out Waterville went on a run. Then in the fourth quarter we lost Itzel, Hailey and Abby, all to fouls. We were still leading when all three left the game, but the free throws began to add up for Waterville as they shot eighteen in the final frame. Jessica Day and Kassidy Simmons both hit some huge free throws for them. We had chances late to tie and take the lead; we just couldn't hit our free throws and a couple lay-ups.
This was the most exciting game we have played in this year, the
fourth quarter was awesome! I was really proud of Cheyanne McDadden, Ofelia Rodriguez, Sierra Miller, Jaque Guillen and Thalia Lepley as they battled right to the end. They continued to extend the game numerous times with defensive stops; they kept us in the game even without our top two scorers and rebounders.
We return to play at home against Oroville Tuesday, in a huge night for both the girls and boys. Both games are the biggest games of the year for both of us so far. I really hope we can have a big and loud crowd like Waterville had during our game.
