If you are interested in tennis as a recreational pursuit, this coming Sunday, May 1, Chelan High School Tennis Coach Marty Rothlisberger is throwing a Tennis Block Party at Lake Chelan Shores from noon to 2 p.m. to help introduce the new Chelan Valley Community Tennis Association.
There will be a free BBQ lunch, prizes, games and a lot of fun tennis equipment to check out.
Mark Milner, the tennis pro at North Cascades Athletic Club in Omak, will be on hand with demo rackets to try out. Terry Valdez from the Wenatchee Valley Community Tennis Association will also be on hand with QuickStaart equipment for kids 10 and under. This equipment will include smaller tennis rackets, deflated balls for less intimidating bounces and modified nets.
“The block party is for all ages and all experience levels,” said Rothlisberger. “People can get more information on how to get started with tennis. We’ll have information about how adults and tenns can get together and play, and opportunities for younger kids to learn the sport.”
Also, on Saturday, June 4, there will be a formal Quick Start training program offered by a USTA professional. This is a three hour course that teaches the fundamentals of tennis and shows adults how to teach tennis to kids. It is a great way for parents to learn more about tennis and how to help their kids have a good tennis experience.
Registration for the June 4 course will be available at the Block Party.
