Chelan track team members earn honors

Heading to Tonasket for District Track & Field Friday

A number of Chelan’s Track and Field Team athletes are ranked in the top ten in 1A rankings throughout the state. Coach Andrea Parnell was particularly pleased with the teams efforts at last Friday’s, May 6, Caribou Trail League Championships in Cashmere where the team as a whole came in third.

 

“I am proud of the many honors our athletes have earned this year,” said Parnell. “We are looking forward to a strong performance in the District meet Friday in Tonasket.

 

In the field events, Matt Pittsinger posted wins in the shot put, discus and javelin earning CTL 1st Team status in all three events. Abraham Arias was honored with an Honorable Mention in the discus.

 

Michael Amsel Jr. received 1st Team honors in the long jump, an event he is ranked first in.

 

Matt Peterson, Erick Oscarson, and Enrique Diaz were all given Honorable Mentions in the 100 meter, 400 meter and 300 meter hurdles respectively. Cole Schwartz, Erick Oscarson, Matt Peterson and Michael Amsel Jr. received 2nd Team honors for the 4X400 relay and an Honorable Mention in the 4X100 meter relay.

 

The girls team also garnered a number of honors at the CTL Championship in Cashmere. The All-League honors for 1st Team went to Bree Holloway in the 800 meter run, and the girls 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams of Cody & Maddie Knaub, Jaicee Harris and Darcy Austin received 1st and 2nd Team honors respectively. The 4X400 team of Jaicee Harris, Morgan Hawkins, Maddie Knaub and Bree Holloway received an Honorable Mention.

 

In the field events Sarah Waskewitz took first place in the javelin and 1st Team Honors. She is ranked No. 1 in the state in that event. She also received an Honorable Mention in the discus. Darcy Austin was honored with a 2nd Team placement in the javelin.

 

Abby Phelps received 2nd Team Honors in the Triple Jump.

 

The team will head to Tonasket this coming Friday for the District Track and Field Championships where they are expected to continue to do well.
