Chelan golfers headed to State Golf Championships
Chelan High School golfers scored a double victory in team competition at the Bi-District Golf Championships in Chewelah on May 17, qualifying three boys and two girls for State playoffs next week.
The Chelan boys took the win in Chewelah with a total of 104 team points to Chewelah’s 98. Lakeside came in at 95, Omak at 80.5, Freeman at 68.5, Okanogan at 60 and Cascade down at 46.
Cristian Krumbah stroked an 80 for sixth place and both Robert Ihlanfeldt and Zach Burchett scored 84s, tying for 10th place. Omak’s Ryder Lewis had a great game stroking a 2-over par 74 for medalist honors.
The Chelan girls took first place with a score of 19 followed by Chewelah at 18.5. Lexi Burchett and Sam Cooper qualified for the state championships. At the end of regulation play, Sam and her sister Quinn Cooper were tied and Sam won the sudden death playoff hole which left sister Quinn as the alternate. Alyssa Maine of Freeman was the girls medalist with an 83. She was runner up to Kelli Bowers at the state tournament last year.
