Chelan Goats come up big in baseball win over Cascade
By Richard Uhlhorn
It was a good day offensively for the Chelan Goats against the Cascade Kodiaks on Tuesday, May 3, as the team became a hitting machine with 10 hits to defeat the Kodiaks in league play 10-6. Cascade was down 10-1 in the fifth inning, but the Kodiaks scored another 5 runs in the sixth and seventh, saving themselves from an embarrassing 10 run game.
“Our bats finally woke up,” said Coach Jim Burbery. Evan Reister was 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Gunnar Gocke was 2-4 with 1 RBI, Jake Burbery was 1-4 with an RBI, Aaron Schramm was 1-4 with 2 RBIs, Gabe Quigley was 1-4, Jerry Isenhart was 1-3 with a double that almost left the yard and Robin Weathersby was 1-2 with an RBI.
Gabe Quigley was on the mound for a strong showing, pitching six solid innings and only allowing one hit by the Kodiaks. He walked three and had nine strikeouts.
Quigley was relieved by Aaron Schramm and Gunner Gocke who combined to close out the final inning.
Chelan only committed three errors in this game. “It was a great job by the team today,” said Burbery. “We hope to see everyone come out and support the team Friday for their last home game of the season.” Chelan hosts Omak for a doubleheader.
