Ellensburg Bulldogs beat Goats 50-37

By Richard Uhlhorn

Prior to Tuesday night’s non-league match-up with the Ellensburg Bulldogs, Coach Joe Harris stated that the Bulldogs were going to be tough. “They are a good team and are coached well.”

Chelan was able to take it’s fast offense to Ellensburg in the first half, leading 12-9 at the end of the first quarter and only trailing by 4 points at the half.

The score would have been a lot different if Chelan had been able to make good on a number of good looks. Shots taken by Aaron McQuaid, Evan Riester and Tyler James that would normally be gold, turned up rattling around the rim and out. Ellensburg was controlling the boards.

In the third quarter, play tipped towards Ellensburg when they made a three pointer and then capitalized on several more field goals to jump out to a 38-26 lead.

Then in the fourth quarter, Chelan found their game and struggled to get back into it, outscoring the Bulldogs 11-6 to pull within 7 points, 37-44, with 31 seconds remaining. By the buzzer, the Bulldogs added 6 more points from the free throw line to win the game 50-37

Coach Harris said before the game that the team would have its kinks worked out by the time league battles began.

On Saturday, the team travels to Lake Roosevelt to take on the Raiders.
