The Omak Pioneers didn’t give Chelan much of a game on Friday night. Their numbers are down and the team, while very quick, had a hard time dealing with Aaron McQuaid, Tyler James and Evan Riester under the basket. Out front, Michael Amsel Jr. and Matt Robinson were able to keep the ball moving. Off the bench Eric Oscarson added some quality minutes to this game.
McQuaid seems to have settled into his nitch on the team. As one of the senior leaders, McQuaid has proven that he can shoot from almost anywhere on the court and connect with the basket. On Friday night he repeated his game high scoring with 21 points. He is equally strong on the defensive end of the court and had 3 blocks and 3 steals to add to his stat box.
Tyler James, who is only a junior, remains strong under the basket for Chelan and scored 15 points and had 8 rebounds. Out front, guards Michael Amsel Jr. and Matt Robinson move the ball down court quickly and are difficult to stop. Both have good instincts and Amsel seems to be able to drive the ball to the hoop while Robinson prefers to shoot from the outside the three point line. Both added 25 points to Chelan’s efforts against the Pioneers.
Omak has several talented players and they showed those talents last night. Country Pakootas poured in 17 and Joseph Lagrou had 13 for almost half of Omak’s total scoring effort
Chelan plays Lake Roosevelt on their home court on Saturday night. The Raiders beat Chelan at the last second during the Christmas Tournament, so Saturday’s game will be an interesting one for the Goats. Lake Roosevelt is a hard place to play and its fans will be loud.
