Chelan Goats run, pass, slip and slide in snow

to continue playoff run… beats Cle Elum 35-19

The weather guys said there was a chance of rain or snow in Cle Elum, but I don’t think anyone thought the game would be played in a driving snow blizzard.

The Goats didn’t let a little snow faze them as they came out and played their hearts out against a very, very good football team. It was cold and miserable as Chelan romped to a 35-19 win over the Cle Elum Warriors, who got their final touchdown in the last seconds of the game.

Who said you can't enjoy a corn dog in a snowy blizzard on the sidelines at a footall game.

What a class act Cle Elum and its fans are though, and it is a story that fans who were not at the game would miss. At the end of this disappointing game for Cle Elum, the announcer congratulated the Chelan Goats for a fine game and asked the entire Cle Elum fan base to stand up and recognize Chelan’s triumph under these difficult playing conditions. He then said, “Cle Elum would like to wish you the best of luck to you in your quest to win the State Championshiop.” How classy can that be.

As for the game… it was an incredible showing by the Chelan Goats who owned the field. Quarterback Michael Amsel Jr. was on task all night with his running and passing abilities. Matt Peterson caught some incredible passes and who can deny Cole Schwartz when he wants to gain some yardage or score a touchdown.

The defense was stellar in their efforts to shut down the Warriors running and passing game.

Yes, it was miserable… it was cold… and it was difficult, but this game will go down in the annals of Chelan Football as one of the best games ever played by this great team, and that is what Chelan’s Coaching staff has done this year… gelled this group of young men into a solid team that enjoys, and has fun, at what they are doing on the field.

GLC will have a full story with statistics and a photo gallery, such as it is, soon.

In other news around the playoffs:

  • Chelan will play either Royal or Colville next Saturday… time and place to be announced. This game will be decided today, Saturday, November 12, at 2 p.m.
  • Cashmere absolutely destroyed Zillah last night 53-0
  • Connell destroyed Freeman 26-7

A camera crew from Cle Elum's Channel40.tv was on hand for the game and fed streaming video of the game on-line last night. That broadcast is archived below:
