Fall sports take off with a venenance

Following is a recap of the sports activities that have taken place so far this week.
Cross-Country ~ The Chelan High School Cross Country team competed at the Liberty Bell Invite at Lake Pearrygin State Park in Winthrop.
As usual, the Chelan XC team seems to find a way to win under the coaching of Mark Anderson and Jack Rutter.
Gaby Guillen continues to be a major force for the Chelan team and she placed second in Winthrop to help lead the girls team to a first place finish at this meet. Individual placing and times:

Soccer coach Eric Peterson reports that while the Lady Goats lost their game against Cascade, it was a nail biter.
Chelan lost this match 2-1.
Chelan’s Alma Franco scored late in the first half with a looping cross shot from the 18.
Cascade answered in the second half, and then scored again on a penalty kick with two minutes to go to seal the victory.
“Our team played some great soccer and gave Cascade a run for their money,” wrote Peterson.
Chelan’s Lady Goat Volleyball Team continues to chalk up wins against their CTL opponents.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to Tonasket and defeated the Tigers 25-9, 25-13, 25-8.
The J.V. team also won its match.
Jaicee Harris once again led the team to the victory with 12 kills, 10/10 serve receive, 7 digs and 7/9 at the service line with 5 aces.
Houston Robison had 5 kills, 2 blocks and was 7/7 at the service line with 1 ace. Darcy Austin also whacked 5 kills and was 8/9 at the service line.
Olivia Plew had 23 assists and was 27/29 at the service line with 10 aces.
“This puts our league record at 4-0,” reported Coach Donene Hendricks.
Chelan hosts Cascade on Thursday evening and then travels to South Whidbey on Saturday.
