Lady Goats escape with 47-41 victory over Brewster
by Richard Uhlhorn
It was an all around tough game for the Lady Goats and if it hadn't of been for a third quarter 11-6 run, the Chelan ladies could have found themselves on the losing side of this CTL battle.
Afterwards, Coach Tom Robinson said, "Bless their hearts. They pulled it out." In basketball talk, it was an ugly game.
Brewster came out with a full court press and the Goats had some difficulty breaking it, especially with out the services of senior guard Kelli Bowers who sat on the bench and watched. By the end of the first back and forth quarter, the score was 10-10.
The second quarter of play was no different. Both teams matched shot after shot and went to the locker room at half time locked in a tie game, 18-all.
In the third quarter Chelan was able to take control and forge a small, but significant lead, outscoring the Lady Bears 11-7 to enter the fourth quarter of play up by five points. The Lady Goats continued to take control offensively and force turnovers defensively to extend their lead to 10 points in the first 2.5 minutes of the fourth.
Brewster's coach had enough and called a time out with remaining and his girls responded to his coaching admonishments, came out after the time out and immediately scored five points to help close the gap back to five.
As Brewster tried to close the gap even further, Chelan answered with and ended up with a six point win at the buzzer.
