Chelan and Eastmont fought hard for the rebound on every play during Chelan's victory over the Lady Wildcats Tuesday evening in East Wenatchee.
Lady Goats hang on in OT to defeat Wildcats
by Richard Uhlhorn
Chelan's Lady Goats opened its game against the Eastmont Lady Wildcats with a solid 16-8 run in the first quarter of play, but a determined effort by the Wildcats tied the game when freshman Nikki Gilbert hit a three point shot with only 20 seconds remaining in regulation play forcing overtime.
This game would never have gotten to overtime if Chelan hadn't shot 17 of 49 attempts at the free throw line. But in overtime with the score 34 to 34, the Lady Goats came alive after Jaicee Harris and Houston Robison both missed their attempts at freethrows.
Then it was Taylor McClellan to the line with remaining in OT and she didn't miss, putting Chelan up by two. She was followed to the line by Kelli Bowers who added two more free throws with only to play.
The Wildcats couldn't put the ball away all night, shooting only 7 of 32 field goal attempts in the first half and 7 of 42 attempts in the second half.
With 59 seconds remaining, Houston Robison put the final touches on the game when she went to the free throw line and hit both of her shots to put the Goats in the lead by 6 points. Before it was over, Lyndsey Fox put one more in to end the game at 41-35.
Kelli Bowers got the game going in the first quarter by hitting her traditional three pointer which helped her score a game high 16 points on the evening.
This game was very physical and Jaicee Harris, Houston Robison and anyone else who tried to put the ball up on the inside, were just pounded by the Wildcats. Taylor McClellan and Harris added 7 points to the total with Robison adding another 5 points. Harris led the team with 10 rebounds.
Eastmont forced 26 turnovers, but just couldn't convert those to points on their end of the court.
Chelan now enters league play with a game against the Okanogan Bulldogs this coming Friday night in Okanogan.
