Aaron McQuaid was busy against Connell, catching a touchdown pass, a two point conversion pass and ending up as one of the secondary's best tacklers.
Goats football season ends at semi's
by Richard Uhlhorn
Despite being down 30-0 at halftime, the Chelan Goats football team never gave up. After a halftime rest, the Goats came out, took the kickoff and in three straight pass plays moved the ball downfield to the 10 yard line where Cole Schwartz took it in for Chelan's first touchdown of the game. The two point conversion was no good.
The Connell Eagles proved themselves to be the better team today, but Goats have nothing to be ashamed of. Not only did they win some serious football games to make the semi's they continued in the best tradition of the Talley program and played with class, determination and a whole load of guts.
At the end of the third quarter, Connell scored its last touchdown of the day and then early in the fourth quarter, young Michael Amsel Jr. threw a nice touchdown pass to Aaron McQuaid to bring the score to 37-12. Another short pass over the middle to McQuaid converted the two point attempt.
The game ended with Connell winning 37-14 for the right to play in the championship game next week in the Tacoma Dome. Their opponent will be Cascade Christian.
Head Coach Darren Talley
Sums It Up So Well
What a run in the playoffs
No regrets and no excuses
by Darren Talley
Chelan High School's 2009 football season came to it's conclusion in the semi final game verses a tough 13-0 Connell team.
Today Connell played like a State final team and didn't have many cracks in their armor. We played our hearts out, but could not contain one of the State's best running backs and he wore us down all game long.
The season for Chelan's dream's had finally run it's final chapter.
We will never forget the team of 2009 and the way they played like champions. This football team did not know how to give up all season long and fought through more adversity than any team I've ever been a part of in my whole coaching career.
<> They are winners and ending the season 3rd place in State will be a happy thought for us all in the years to come.
<> They are winners going further into the playoffs than any Chelan team in history.
<> They are winners going into the playoffs two years in a row, and only for the third time in school history.
<> They are winners in their on the field play, and their off the field actions.
They will be missed and the Chelan football team that came together as a family will go on in our hearts and minds forever.
They made no excuses and they made no long explanations - they just played the game of football the best they could on every play, in every game, every day in practice, all year long.
Offensively Chelan had their moments of greatness in the game. Athletic plays yes, but mostly gutsy play by a bunch that just loved to be on the football field competing.
Coming out and scoring on it's first drive in the second half and again at the beginning of the fourth quarter was how this team will be remembered.
They always fought back and went out with their guns firing until their were no more bullets to fire and the last bell rang signaling the end to this game and the end to this 2009 football year.
What a year.
Defensively Chelan could not contain Connell's great running back and he sliced and diced his way throughout the game up and down the football gridiron.
We did our best, but today in the first half Connell was better by a wide margin. We did our best and played much better in the second half outscoring a great Connell team 14-7, but it was not enough to over come the large deficit from the first half.
Every year as the season draws closer and closer to the end you never know how close a team will come. In the final chapter as you watch them compete and work hard to get better even in the final weeks you know they love the game.
When you watch them hang around the locker room after practice you know they enjoy each other.
After the final bell has rung and the seniors get to say their last and eyes well up you know they love each other and the memories all nothing but good.
Thank you CHS 2009 football season for one that I and all your coaches will never forget.
