It was a miserable rain filled evening for the Chelan Goat fans, but the Goats enjoyed a rousing victory over the Brewster Bears 32-0. "They did what they were supposed to do for the start of homecoming weekend," reported Coach Darrin Talley.
On Chelan's first possession, the team put together a three play drive that culminated in a 12-yard touchdown run by Matt Peterson.. Chelan's new quarterback, freshman Michael Amsel, Jr. broke a play from the 39-yardline and ran the ball in for Chelan's second TD of the night. Jose Ramirez kicked the extra point putting Chelan into a 13-0 lead. Then it was Robin Weathersby's turn to drive into the end zone from only 4-yards out after a sustained drive that included a nice pass play by Amsel.
Amsel proved he could throw the ball, hitting Aaron McQuaid on a beautiful 33-yard pass down the sideline for six more points to give Chelan a 23-0 lead at the halftime whistle.
In the third quarter Matt Pittsinger got in on the running action, and scored from 14-yards out for Chelan's final TD of the night.Jose Ramirez added the kick and the score was 32-0 Chelan.
The cool thing about a good homecoming game is that everyone gets on the field and this happened in the fourth quarter of play when Coach Talley put the second string on the field.
On offense Aaron McQuaid had his best receiving night of the year, with five receptions for 126 yards and one TD.Freshman QB Michael Amsel Jr. had a terrific debut throwing 6 for 6 on the night for 122 yards and one TD, and running the ball to perfection with 4 carries for 64 yards and one TD.Sophomore QB Cristian Krumbah threw the ball well and went 2 for 3 for 14 yards on the night. All the running backs worked hard led by Matt Peterson, Robin Weathersby, and Matt Pittsinger each running the ball into the end zone.In the fourth quarter sophomore Billy Poppie added a nice 19-yard run for his biggest gain in varsity action.
Defensively sophomore Cole Schwartz had another great night with 11 tackles, one ball knock down, one forced fumble, and one interception. For most linebackers it was a career night, but for Cole just another fun night playing the game he loves. Adam Hendricks (AKA - coconut head, because he hits so hard all the time) had one of his best nights of the year, with 10 tackles and one forced fumble. On the line of scrimmage Doug Ramsey and Jose Aparicio may have had the best night ever for our big men, with 9 and 7 tackles respectively. The defensive captain of our team Matt Pittsinger had another one of his consistently great nights from side line to side line adding 8 tackles and one forced fumble.Everyone on defense, with some still fighting through sickness contributed toward the shutout.
Next week Chelan travels to Omak to take on the Pioneers for a start.
