Chelan Goats continue to beat up on CTL
by Richard Uhlhorn
The Chelan Goats capitalized on a 25-9 run in the first quarter against the Number 8 ranked Cascade Kodiaks on Wednesday, January 20 to form a nice point spread for the rest of the game. The Goats (ranked 2 in the AP 1A ranks) ended up going home with 77-47 win over the struggling Kodiaks.
Prior to the game, Coach Joe Harris said he was extremely pleased with how the Goats were coming together and playing like a team. The team played in Yakima on Monday and beat Highland by an estimated 35 points according to Harris. "I don't have my book here, but I believe it was around 35 points. The boys played great defense all night long against Highland and just shut them down. They are coming together as a team."
"Joe didn't have that good a game in Yakima," said Harris. "But both Aaron (McQuaid) and Matt (Engstrom) stepped up and played well."
That was very evident against Cascade on Wednesday night. The team was passing the ball well and hitting the open man which keys into the three players in double figures with Joe Harris leading the charge with 27 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 5 rebounds. Aaron McQuaid added 15 points including one dunk right after Harris dunked the ball. That totally energized the crowd in a game that was already becoming a ho-hum.
Michael Amsel Jr. combined several jump shots and lay-ins to add 13 points to the total while Matt Engstrom pulled down 9 rebounds to go along with his 8 points during the game.
Currently, the Goats are ranked by the AP in second place behind Vashon. Chelan is 11-1 and Vashon has a 12-1 record.
Chelan will travel to LakeRoosevelt on Saturday, January 23, to play the Raiders.
