the Orting Cardinals on Saturday, March 20. This is the second year

in a row that Chelan has won this matchup

against a very well coached and tough baseball game.

Chelan Goats open baseball with win over Orting

Busy weekend for sports in the valley and beyond

Baseball versus Orting (non-league)

“It was a satisfying win,” said Coach Jim Burbery. “Josh pitched well, keeping Orting hitters off balance.” Josh Burbery, started on the mound and went four innings into the game before being relieved by Alex Brown ( 1 inning) and Cyrus DesMarais (2 innings).

Burbery came out throwing some heat, despite the cooler temperatures. Deputy Sheriff Levi Ferguson stopped by and measured Burbery’s speed with radar and reported to Coach Burbery that he was throwing 74 miles per hour.

Chelan stopped Orting in the first inning with three consecutive outs and then went to work on offense with two runs scoring. Evan Reister had a nice hit to get things going.

Orting was able to load the bases in the top of third, but Chelan got its third out on an infield hit to short. In the bottom of the third, Chelan’s Adam Hendricks scored Chelan’s third run after hitting a nice double to set the inning up. By the end of the third it was Chelan 3, Orting 0.

After leaving for fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and returning in the seventh, Chelan and Orting were locked in an exciting 4-4 battle. Niles Desmarais had a nice hit that put him on second base. He was able to get to third on a passed ball and almost got caught deep down the third base line on another passed ball, but just got back in time.

The next time the pitcher’s ball got past the catcher, Desmarais headed for home and scored the final run of the game… handing Chelan a satisfying 5-4 win over the Orting Cardinals.

After the game, the Chelan Goat parents held a barbecue for both teams and the fans.

Orting then played the Omak Pioneers in the second game of the day after which the Chelan JV played Omak’s JV.

Manson tied the game in the 55th minute, forcing the game into two five-minute golden goal overtimes which ended in a final 1-1 tie.

Chelan's Ruben Medina and Isaac Perez split time as goalkeepers today.  Chelan's next soccer game is in Omak against the Pioneers on Tuesday.

Chelan tennis versus Pateros

Pateros came to town on Saturday, March 20, to take on the Chelan Goats. “It was a pretty fun match to watch overall,” said Coach Marty Rothlesberger. “Pateros is a small team, but they have quality players.”

Chelan was missing two of its top three boys and two of its top four girls, so the match became a real battle.
