5-3-10 Spring Sports update

Spring Sports update:

Track & Field Team place 3rd in Bellevue

On Saturday, May 1, the Chelan Boys and Girls Track and Field team placed third at the Bellevue Christian Invitational in a field of 16 teams. This meet was held at Bellevue High School and was hosted by Bellevue Christian High School.

In the girls 100 meters Darcy Austin placed third in 13.47 followed by Jaicee Harris in fourth with a time of 13.61.

In the 200 meters they placed the same with Austin in third and Harris in fourth with times of 28.20 and 28.35 respectively.  In the 1600 meters Mirella Carrion placed third in a time of 5:50.87 and second in the 3200 meters in 13:03.40.

In the field events Sarah Waszkewitz placed fifth in shot put with a throw of 28’09”. In the Javelin the Chelan girls placed first and second with Sarah Waszkewitz throwing a 122’03” and Austin with a throw of 114’06”.

On the boys side in the 100 meter dash, Aaron McQuaid placed second in 11.90 followed by Matt Peterson in third in 11.96. Michael Amsel Jr. placed sixth in a time of 12.11.

The boys 4x100 relay placed first with a time of 46.07 with Peterson, McQuaid, Amsel Jr. and Cole Schwartz running the event.

Matt Pittsinger placed first in the Javelin with a throw of 154’04”, second in the shot  with a throw of 40’03.50” and fifth in the Discus with a throw of 121’02".

Aaron McQuaid placed fourth in the high jump clearing 5’4”. Michael Amsel Jr. placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 19’02”. Hank Burton took third in the pole vault clearing 12 feet. More results can be found at http://www.athletic.net.

Chelan has three more track meets to finish out the season.  Liberty Bell, Tonasket ( CTL meet) and Cashmere (district meet) over the next three Fridays with the WIAA State Track and Field meet in Cheney at Eastern Washington University on May 27 and 28.

Chelan Goats Track and Field competed at the Rieke Invitational on, Friday April 16. The boys and girls teams finished sixth and seventh respectively out of a field of twelve teams.

On the boys side Matt Peterson finished third in the 200m with a time of 23.70. Robin Weathersby finished eighth in the 400 meter run with a time of 54.90.

The boys 4x100m relay finished third with Weathersby, Michael Amsel Jr., Aaron McQuaid and Peterson in a time of 45.30. They are ranked fifth in the state for 1A athletes. They also finished fifth in the 4x400 in a time of 3:44.30.

Matt Pittsinger took seventh in the shotput with a throw of 41’01”, eighth in the discus with a throw of 117’04” and seventh in the javelin with a throw of 142’10”. Hank Burton took fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 11’-06”. Amsel took second in the long jump with a distance of 19’09”. Both of these jumps put Burton and Amsel in the top ten for 1A athletes in the state.

In the girls events, Darcy Austin took third in the 100m in 12.90 putting her in the top ten for 1A girls in the state. Mari Shramm took eighth in the 400m in a time of 1:06.10. Gabby Guillen took fourth in the 800m in a time of 2:36.80. Mirella Carrion took seventh in the 3200m in a time of 13:00.40.

The girls 4x100 relay with Cody Knaub, Maddie Knaub, Kyra Wyant and Darcy Austin took fifth in a  time of 53.30. The same girls in the  4x200m relay took sixth in a time of 1:56.00 The 4x400m relay with Shramm, M.Knaub, C. Knaub and Austin took fifth in a time of 4:32.50.

Sarah Waszkewitz took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 28’09” and first in the javelin with a throw of 115’03”. Waszkewitz is currently ranked first in field events in the state for 1A.


On Saturday, May 1, Chelan traveled to Okanogan for a double header, and ended up splitting the opener and nightcap with the Bulldogs.

In the opener,  Josh Burbery took the mound for the Goats, getting 8 strikeouts, giving up 7 hits, 2 walks, and hitting 2 batters in an 8 inning loss. The final in the opener was 7-6.

Defensively, Chelan gave up 7 errors in this game.

Offensively Josh Burbery was 3-4 w/3 RBI's, Adam Hendricks was 2-4 w/ 1-RBI, Will Ray 1-4, Cyrus Desmarais 1-4, Alex Brown 1-4, Gabe Quigley 1-4, and Kyle Nelson 1-5.                                                        

Josh Burbery threw 8 strikeouts in game one.

In the nightcap, Cyrus Desmarais got the start on the mound for Chelan and pitched 6 strong innings giving up 4 hits, 3 walks, hit 4 batters, but striking our 7. Alex Brown closed this game out for 12-2 Goat victory. 

Defensively, Chelan committed 3 errors in the nightcap.

Offensively, Gabe Quigley hit 3-5 w/1 RBI, Evan Reister 2-4 w/2 RBI's, Adam Hendricks, who had a great day at the plate and in the field, went 2-4 w/2 RBI's and made a great diving catch in center field. Cyrus Desmarais 2-3 w/2 RBI's, Brooks Gatzemeier 1-2 w/ 1RBI, Niles Desmarais 1-3 w/ 1 RBI, Jesse Quigley 1-2, Kyle Nelson 1-5 w/ 1 RBI.

Chelan’s final regular season game will be held on Friday, May 7, in Lake Roosevelt. District play begins on Tuesday, May 11. “With several decisive game yet to play in the CTL, we won’t know until after this weekend’s games where we will be,” said Coach Jim Burbery. “Currently, we are 6 and 6 in league play and tied with Okanogan for fourth place.”


On Friday, April 30, the Lady Goats played Okanogan.

In game one, the Lady Goats once again out hit their opponents but came up short in the run column losing to the Lady Bulldogs of Okanogan 6-3.

Lindsey Fox and Courtney Dietrich lead the way for the Lady Goats with 2 hits apiece. While Harris and Chiles lead the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 2 hits also. Olson pitched a strong game for the Lady Bulldogs and also added a solo home run to help her efforts.

Game 2

In Game 2, Chelsea Gocke and Krissa Gavin-Shively led the hit parade as they each had 3 hits in leading the Lady Goats to a 9-4 victory in the nightcap.

Other standouts at the plate for the Goats were Taylor McClellan, Courtney Dietrich and Makayla Mendoza who each pounded out 2 hits apiece securing the win for Dani Symthe who pitched 6 strong innings allowing only 2 earned runs and helping herself at the plate by also getting 2 hits.

The Lady Goats pounded out 15 hits in the night cap off of Olson who pitched the entire game for the Lady Bulldogs and went 2-4 at the plate.

Other standouts for Okanogan were Carillo who got 2 hits and Chiles who went 1-3.
