Chelan golfers defeat Cascade and Cashmere

It was a cool, but sunny day at the Chelan Municipal Golf Course as the Chelan Golf Teams took on the Cashmere Bulldogs and Cascade Kodiaks. The strong boys team took the victory in its first home league match, beating Cascade 363-397.
The Boys medalist was Kent Foust of Cashmere who shot a blistering 2-over par 74 (36-38). Chelan Freshman, Ian Cowell shot a credible 85 (42-43) and he was followed closely by Chelan Senior Tim Stockdale with an 88 (47-41).
On the girls side, Chelan was unable to field a team, but Chelan Senior Kelli Bowers won the medalist title with an 81 (38-43). “Kelli struggled a bit on the back nine,” reported Coach Kirk Einsphar.
Einsphar is very pleased with this year’s golfing turnout for the boys. “I have 16 kids out on the boys side, but I’m hurting on the girls side with only four girls.” Seniors Sara Blixt and Kelli Bowers were the only two to make the field on Tuesday. Lexie Burchet and Nikki Litterall were both ineligible to play.
Einsphar is looking towards Senior Jonathan Peck to lead the team, but is very impressed with Freshman Ian Cowell. “He’s going to be very good,” said Einsphar. He also has Cristian Krumbah shooting well. “We could have eight kids who could be in that top grouping.”
With respect to Kelli Bowers, Einsphar said, “She has a lot on her shoulders this year. I can’t really coach her except to make sure she is mentally strong. She’s very focused and obviously looking beyond her final year of high school golf.” Bowers has signed with the University of Washington to play golf. “There is no one in our region who can even touch her.”
Chelan plays Wenatchee at Chelan on Thursday, April 8.
