MANSON 33 - Okanogan 59
Coach Hill reports….
Well this was a tough night at the office, as we started off the game with only 8 players and less than 2 minutes into the game we lost our leading rebounder (Hailey Ellsworth) with an ankle injury! Okanogan jumped out to a huge lead and never looked back, even though our girls played hard throughout the entire game and were never intimidated by the MUCH bigger bulldog girls! Unfortunately Okanogan's size was the difference in the game as they went into the post all game and got 31 points from their best post player.
We had a little trouble turning the ball over in the first couple minutes of the game, but once we settled down against their press things got much better for us, but with that being said we just couldn't hit the open shot. Okanogan did not move real well in their zone defense, thus we were able to get many open shots. Had we been able to make some of those open shots it might have been a little different game.
Eva Escoto played in her first game of the year and did a great job defensively and also made some great skip passes. Mindy Neal came off the bench to do a great job playing in the post against much taller players than herself, she proved to the coaching staff and her teammates that she can play physical. Freshmen, Abby Bridgewater got her first start of the year and did the best she could against Okanogan's best player. Verna LaCourse hit a very nice jump shot in the first quarter when we were struggled the most to make shots.
Marci Nelson probably played the best game of any of our girls as she had a great all around game with 12 rebounds. Whitni England put us on the board with our first four points of the game it was great to see her getting some of her shooting touch back, she also caused numerous bulldog turnovers. Vetta Maynard once again led us in scoring even though she had an off night shooting she still managed to get 16 points with 5 of them coming from the free-throw line.Hailey Ellsworth hurt her ankle before she could get even got going, but we really hope to have her back by Saturday for our first league game at Kittitas,
We reutun to Waterville on Wednesday, Dec. 30th to play Almira-Coulee-Hartline with game starting at 6:00 p.m.
