LIBERTY BELL 56 @ MANSON 44
Coach Hill reports….
This was another great game played by both teams! The intensity on the defensive end for both teams was absolutely remarkable. Both teams played with a lot of class and pride. Many times throughout the game both teams experienced some rough times and easily could have folded the tent, but neither one did.
As a fan I am positive it was a great game to watch, because as a coach I enjoyed watching these two great teams go to battle against one another and then still be able tell each other what a great game everyone played.
Two of the top scorers in the league went at it tonight, and nobody came away unhappy as Vetta Maynard led all scorers with 23 points (11 in the first quarter) and Shelby Scott (10 in the first quarter) had 21 for Liberty Bell.
Marci Nelson made Scott work extremely hard for every single shot she got. The key to us being playing the # 2 ranked team in the state so tough was once again our defense. With Marci leading the way guarding Scott the entire game, Whitni England put the clamps down on a very good point guard in Bailey Bradshaw, Vetta came up with numerous steals and our posts (Hailey Ellsworth, Veronica Vanderholm and Abby Bridgewater) played without question their best defensive games of the year! Angelica Suarez had another great defensive game guarding a very quick for Liberty Bell. Eva Escoto came into the game and had an immediate impact on things as she took a charge at the defensive end! All of the girls know exactly what we still need to fix (less turnovers, more rebounds, block out and may our lay-ins) to turn all of these close games into wins, and hopefully we can get all of that figured out before we head to Waterville for a rematch of a great game back in January.
I was also very proud of the rest of the girls that didn't get to play tonight or played very little. They are all a very big part of what we are trying to do as a team. They did an absolutely wonderful job cheering on their teammates and keeping everything on the bench positive.
This has been a great season so far because of all of the girls that have in the program right now, big things are expected of them the rest of the way and who knows what can still happen for this exciting group of girls.
