This was a very frustrating game for the girls, they felt they were bumped, pushed, held, slapped, poked and pinched all game long, but at least they were rewarded by getting to shoot 4 free throws.
I have never blamed the officials for a loss and tonight is no different yet the officials dictated how this game was played. A few huge no calls intimidated our girls from going to the hoop like they normally do, which then caused our girls to settle for the jump shot. The girls realize that outside shooting is not their game and that they needed to continue to drive to the hoop. The girls also realize this was not their best outing of the year and that in order for them to make it to districts we cannot have any more let downs the rest of the way.
Once again we jumped out to a lead, but could not continue it all game long and by halftime we were down 3. Ultimately the 3rd and 4th quarters really hurt us as we outscored in both quarters. The other thing that really went the other way tonight was the rebounds, normally we out-rebound our opponents, but tonight Kittitas out played us on the boards. They were much bigger than us and made sure to use their size to try and intimidate us early on by being very physical away from the ball and then also on the ball whenever we tried to get our fast break going.
In the end the girls never gave up again and worked hard all throughout the game. It just wasn't our night. This bad night could not have come at worse time either. We are now in a real dog fight for the 3rd, 4th and 5th spots in our league with Kittitas, SoapLake and Oroville.
Vetta Maynard had a rough night as she was hounded (held) all game long by #20, but she was still able to score 13 points to lead us. Marci Nelson came up with 4 points of her own. Whitni England had 5 steals. Verna LaCourse had 1 assist. Abby Bridgewater had 2 huge defensive rebounds. Veronica Vanderholm was our leading rebounder with 6. Hailey Ellsworth had pretty consistent game with 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Angelica Suarez got 2 offensive rebounds. Eva Escoto, Yessenia Escoto and Mindy Neal all came in and hustled on defense at the end of the game trying to create some turnovers.
