Lady Goats rebound from loss to Cascade
Beat Lakeside 58-38 for trip to State
Oh what a difference a day makes. On Friday, the Lady Goats lost a close game to the Cascade Kodiaks by a score of 49-46 forcing play on Saturday against Lakeside.
On Saturday, in a loser out situation, the Lady Goats secured a spot at the WIAA 1A State Basketball Tournament in Yakima this coming week by beating Lakeside 58-38.
"That's the best we've played by a long shot," said Coach Tom Robinson. "It was perhaps our best game of the season against a very good Lakeside team."
Jaicee Harris had the best game so far of her high school basketball career with 16 points and 17 rebounds. "She was huge," stated Robinson.
Assistant Coach Tracy Williams was all smiles after the game. "Wow, what a game," he said. "I think that's the best they've played all year."
Of course it wasn't all Harris on the court against Lakeside. Kelli Bowers came up with some three point shots that proved crucial in helping Chelan gain the lead. At the end of the first half, Bowers hit a three pointer that put Chelan up by eight points going into the locker room instead of the five points they would have had.
At the beginning of the third quarter, it was Bowers with another three pointer that put an explanation point on how serious these girls were about beating Lakeside. Bowers ended with a total of 15 points. Sydney Austin added another nine points. Darby Jenkins and Houston Robison were tough under the basket scoring seven points and six points respectively.
Other than Chelan's offensive scoring, the game was pretty equal statistically. Only two turnovers separated the Goats from the Lakeside girls. Chelan was able to steal the ball eight times to Lakeside's six times.
Chelan goes into the State Tournament with a opening game on Wednesday morning against Connell.
