Kilee Lippincott to play softball at Oregon State

by Richard Uhlhorn

They say dynamite comes in small packages! Those who know Kilee Lippincott and have followed her high school softball career know that Oregon State University is getting a dynamite softball player; a player that can cover center field, run and steal bases efficiently and drive pitchers crazy with her hitting skills.

Kilee was courted by several colleges, but chose to attend Oregon State University because of its excellent biology program. She plans on eventually attending medical school. "I knew I couldn't make a living playing softball," stated Kilee. However, she loves the game and wanted to continue playing at the higher level.

Because of Oregon State's reputation for an excellent biology program and because Kilee wanted to continue her softball career, she sent her sports résumé to the softball coach. "The coach contacted me and wanted my summer schedule," said Kilee.

To help grease the wheels for Oregon State, the Whitworth College softball coach sent the Oregon coach information. "Oregon sent a coach to the Hillsboro Softball Tournament in the middle of June and after the tournament offered me a spot on the team."

Kilee has been told she would be playing her freshman year. "They'll have me pinch running to start," she said. "I hope by my sophomore year I've secured a spot in center field.

Kilee is attending Oregon State on an academic scholarship but hopes to eventually win a sport scholarship also. Oregon doesn't allow walk-on athletes which means they take their choice of players very seriously.

Kilee will enter the university's bridge program on August 30, get her physical, attend media day and receive six credits for doing so. Softball begins on September 14 and school begins on September 28.

Softball is a year-round sport for Oregon State with the regular season beginning in February 2010. "They practice year-round with two-a-days," said Kilee. Morning practice is from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. followed by an afternoon practice from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All freshmen athletes are required to attend a study hall period. "I have a great counselor who has set me up with a good schedule for my first quarter," she said.

Kilee was a four-year letter recipient in softball at Chelan High School playing right field as a freshman and then moving to center field to fill an empty spot when Laura Waszkewitz graduated.

Oregon State University will be getting a very fast experienced player for its next run in the PAC 10. GoLakeChelan wishes Kilee all the best in her future educational and sports endeavors.
