Chelan hosted the Brewster Lady Bears for a league match on Tuesday, September 30, and ended up winning a tough one 25-20, 25-23, 25-19.
Brewster was surprising in their resilience against the Chelan attack. They dug out attempted kill after kill and that tough defense allowed them to force Chelan into a number of mistakes throughout the night which kept each game close.
In game one, Chelan found itself tied at 19-all before finally gaining several points to lead this game 22-20 when Brewster took a timeout in an effort to disrupt Chelanís drive to the win. It didnít work and Chelan finished Brewster off 25-20.
Game two was a similar battle for supremacy. Chelan found itself down 1-5 at the outset, but battled back to a one point deficit before Brewster regained the lead 13-9. Coach Hendricks was not happy and called a timeout which helped to put the Lady Goats back on track. They were still struggling however, and Brewster gained a five point lead towards the end at 19-14.
Hendricks called her second timeout and this time Chelan went on a scoring run with some blistering kill shots to challenge Brewsterís lead 19-21 before Coach Alicia Foyle called a time out.
Chelan came back and tied the game at 21-all. Both teams wanted this one badly and kept the game close with another tie at 23-all before Chelan set-up the win with several well placed kills to win 25-23.
Chelan controlled game three, rushing out to an 11-8 lead in the beginning minutes. Brewster continued to play excellent defense against Chelanís hitters, Jaicee Harris, Jamie Brunner and Sidney Austin and pulled to within two points, but that was a close as they could get. Coach Hendricks called another timeout and the Lady Goats came back to win 25-19 to take the match.
This win gave Chelan a 5-1 league record with Cascade the only team to beat them this season.
Chelanís C Squad played Eastmontís freshman squad and won their match. Chelanís JV squad was also victorious over the Brewster JV squad
