Chelan’s Lady Goats had a great week of volleyball with a win over Tonasket on Tuesday evening, a very, very close loss to Cascade and a third place finish at the annual South Whidbey Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

“Cascade is tough,” stated Coach Donene Hendricks. “We had a close match with them, but lost the fifth game. We were within one point of winning the fourth game.” The Kodiaks will be Chelan’s toughest team in the CTL this year.

“The South Whidbey tournament is a good one for us because we get to play 3A and 4A teams,” said Hendricks just before leaving on Friday.

It was a great outing for the Goats. They returned with a third place trophy. “What a great tournament,” writes Hendricks. The team came out of pool play as the number one team by defeating Shoreline Christian (1A team) 25-9, 25-13. Next was Meadowdale (3A) who went down to the Goats 25-14, 25-15 and finally South Whidbey (3A) suffered at the hands of Chelan 25-19, 25-21.

“After coming out the number one seed in our pool play, we were reseeded in the top four of the 16 teams,” said Hendricks. Chelan ended up as the number two seed in this pool which placed them in the semi-final match against Edomons-Woodway (4A). “We lost to them 12-25, 23-25,” said Hendricks. This put the team in a consolation match for third or fourth place and they beat Lynwood (3A) 25-8, 25-20 for third place. “Edmonds-Woodway ended up winning the tournament by defeating Kennedy High, another 4A school.
