Eleven track athletes qualify for State Track Meet by Richard Uhlhorn (as reported by Coach Julie Schwartz)
Eleven Chelan track athletes qualified to compete in the State Track Meet after placing third or better in the District 6/7 District Track meet in Tonasket on Friday, May 29. Another seven Chelan athletes earned alternate spots by placing no lower than fourth.
As a team, the Chelan girls were third overall behind Chewelah and Cashmere.
Gabby Guillen placed third in the 1600 meter run and Mari Schramm was third in the 800 meter run. Sydney Austin will represent Chelan in the 400 meters and will run the 4X400 meter race with Jaicee Harris, Darby Jenkins and Madi Knaub. They won this event at the Tonasket meet. "Sydney Austin was incredible as the anchor," said fellow track athlete Matt Pittsinger. "No one could touch her."
Cody Knaub will compete in the 200 meter run and will team up with sister Madi, Harris and Darcy Austin in the 4X100 relay which they finished 2nd in a photo finish showing. Darby Jenkins, Darcy Austin, Jaicee Harris and Cody Knaub placed 2nd in the $X200 relay to qualify that team for state competition.
Sarah Wazskewitz was 1st in the Javelin with a throw of 120'-5" and will represent Chelan in Cheney next week.
The Chelan boys took 8th overall in a field of 13 schools with Chase Anderson running a mile which placed him in 3rd to secure his spot at the State Track Meet.
Taking 4th place in the 4X100 relay, the young team of Robin Weathersby, Matt Peterson, Aaron McQuaid and Cole Soreano will travel to Cheney as alternates.
