Chelan Chivas lose in OT to Bridgeport
By Richard Uhlhorn (as reported by Coach Erik Peterson)
It was a heartbreaker for the Chelan Lady Goat Soccer Team as they lost a shoot-out against Bridgeport in overtime on Thursday, October 16. “This was our most exciting game this season,” said Coach Erik Peterson.
After two scoreless halves, Chelan was able to score on a shoot-out kick by Casey Cannavan, putting Chelan on top, but after two successful shots by Bridgeport the game ended with Chelan on the losing end. “Despite the loss, the Chivas held their heads high and had a great time playing some great soccer,” said Peterson.
Throughout this match, the game could have gone either way with both teams taking a lot of shots on goal. Chelan defenders, Kayla Diaz, Suleyma Bravo, Grace Moonie, Mikiya Stowe and Margarita Mendoza played well in shutting down Bridgeport’s attacks. Goalkeeper Taylor McClellan blocked several tough shots in this game. Midfielders Sammi Cool, Bianca Ramirez, Monica Cisneros, Itzel Valera and Ashley Erickson played an aggressive game of relentless transition.
Forwards Tori Wright, Erika Arechiga, Rhianna Beauregard and Casey Cannavan worked hard to get the ball into the goal, but were unsuccessful. After two 5-minute halves of scoreless overtime, the inevitable shoot-out began giving Bridgeport a hard fought victory in a game that could have gone either way all day.
Other players include Devin Morrison, Hailee Lehman, Leah Clark, Janet Lopez, Amanda Ihlanfeldt and Valeria Lopez..
Chelan travels to Omak on October 21, to play the Pioneers and then hosts the Entiat Lady Tigers on October 23, at the Chelan Falls Park field.
