Junior Kelli Bowers and Senior Danny Campbell continue to help the ChelanHigh School Golf Team to wins around North Central Washington.
Chelan golf team busy over the past week by Richard Uhlhorn
The Chelan boys and girls golf teams have been busy over the past week and a half. Yesterday, Wednesday, April 29, the boys competed at the Clockum Ridge Golf Course against Quincy.
"The boys had their best showing of the year," said Coach Kirk Einspahr. The team shot a 323 to Quincy's 383. Due to a miscommunication, the girls team didn't compete at this meet.
Dan Campbell was medalist and shot his personal best of the seasonw ith a 4-over par 75 on the par 71 course. Johnny Griffith had his season best with a 79. Tim Stockdale has an 84 and Cory Dowell shot an 85.
"Chelanís four team scorers all finished with better scores than Quincyís best," reported Einspahr. "With only two matches remaining until the District tournament, this was a good match and hopefully a trend that will continue as we come near to the close of our golf season."
Both teams will next compete on our home course Monday, May 4th against Omak and Brewster.
On Tuesday, the girls team competed at the Suncadia Girls Invitational. Kelli Bowers had one of those bad days that befall all athletes. She finished seventh at the Suncadia meet and called her day, "a frustrating and inconsistent performance."
"She continues to lead our team with her abilities and positive attitude," said Einspahr. The girls ended up placing 11th at this meet in a field of 24 teams from all different size classifications.
On Saturday, April 25, the team traveled to Omak for a match that included LakeRoosevelt. Both the girls and boys team took top honors at this match with the boys shooting a 370 to Omak's 412 and LakeRoosevelt's 458.
Taking medalist honors for the boys was Chelanís Tim Stockdale with an 88, followed by Jonathan Peckís 92 and Dan Campbellís 94.
The girls team shot a 417, followed by LakeRoosevelt with a 459. Omak did not field a team for this meet.
Kelli Bowers took the girls medalist honors with an 81. Sara Blixt also had a good match, shooting 103 for the 18 holes.
Back on Tuesday, April 21, the golf team traveled to BanksLake for a match hosted by LakeRoosevelt. The girls took the title with a 471 to the Raiders 561. Kelli Bowers was medalist with an 83 on the par 73 course.
"The boys team fell just four shots short with a 379 to Okanoganís 375," reported Einsphar.Other teams represented on the boys side included Brewster and LakeRoosevelt.
Wade Gebbers of Brewster was medalist with a 77.Chelan was led by Dan Campbell with an 87, followed by both Jonathan Peck and Cory Dowell, both with 96.
Chelan will be at home this coming Monday, May 4, teeing off at against Brewster and Omak.
