Chelan Lady Goats lose squeaker to Wenatchee 39-37

By Richard Uhlhorn

The Lady Goats took on the Wenatchee Panthers in non-league action Saturday,

December 13 and found themselves unable to make the ball fall in the first half.

Jaicee Harris came out and scored Chelan’s only points in the first quarter of play while the Panthers pumped in 13 points to take a commanding lead that finally got stretched to a 19 point lead in the third quarter of play.

Chelan had plenty of looks and made some great shots that just rolled around the rim and out. Unable to pull down the rebound against Wenatchee’s Michaela George and get the put-back, Chelan found itself struggling to get back into this game.

At the end of the first half, Chelan went to the locker room down 13-26. In the third quarter, the ball was still not falling for Chelan. In the first half, the team’s shooting percentage was only .227 and in the second half, that shot up to .333 based on a strong fourth quarter that had Wenatchee wondering if they were going to hold on.

At the end of the third quarter, Wenatchee enjoyed an 18 point lead. It took Chelan nearly six minutes to get back into the game, but when only 2:38 remained on the clock, Chelan was only behind by six points. The girls continued to pull down defensive rebounds and make them count on the offensive side.

With only 15 seconds remaining, Chelan was behind 37-39 after missing a free throw. With 7 seconds remaining, Kilee Lippincott fouled a Panther player who missed her free throw attempts and Chelan came up with the ball for one last chance.

Kelli Bowers put the ball up outside the three point line at the buzzer and it just fell short, hitting the front rim.

It was a dismal game until the fourth quarter when Chelan showed the determination and never-give-up attitude that makes them such a fun team to watch.

The Lady Goats host the Tonasket Tigers on Tuesday evening, December 16 beginning at 6 p.m.
