“I liked the way we maintained our intensity throughout this game,” said Coach Tom Robinson. The Lady Goats hit some huge buckets against a well coached Eastmont team.

In the second half of play, Chelan’s defense shut down Eastmont’s ability to score, holding them to only 15 points while pumping in 25 of their own. Jamie Brunner led the team with 16 points including three 3-pointers that came at crucial points in the game. “We look to Jamie for her strong defensive play,” said Robinson, “but anytime she can shoot like she did tonight… we’ll take it.”

Chelan picked up its defense in the second half Friday night, holding Eastmont to just 15 points over the final two quarters for a 43-34 win. Eastmont was never able to get its offense going and Chelan just kept plugging away. By the end of the first half, Eastmont was only ahead by one point.

It was in the second half that Chelan’s defense stepped up its effort. “The girls realized that Eastmont was getting tired and they could smell blood,” said Robinson. On the evening, Chelan forced Eastmont into 25 turnovers.

On point, both Kelli Bowers and Kilee Lippincott were sharp. Houston Robison, Taylor McClellan and Jaicee Harris were tough defensive rebounds. Darby Jenkins came up with four on the night also.

Chelan got an early lead in the third and held onto it for the rest of the game. Robinson was very happy with the girls play on the court. “We felt good after the game.”

Chelan travels to Ephrata to take on the Tigers next Tuesday evening.
