Derrick Talley had a great night on Chelan’s offensive side, rushing for 149 yards and collecting a beautiful 69 yard pass from quarterback Joe Harris for four of Chelan’s seven touchdowns.

Chelan Goats knock off Omak Pioneers 47-14

By Richard Uhlhorn

Chelan’s first touchdown of the night last Friday, October 24, was a picture perfect 36 yard pass play from quarterback Joe Harris to Greg Schultz which came on the heels of a pass interception by Reece Mclellan.

The Goats defense was able to stop Omak from scoring in the first quarter of play. Chelan got back on the board in the early going of the second quarter with 9:08 to play before the half with a two yard run by Derrick Talley. Julio Juarez’s point after attempt failed and Chelan was up 13-0.

Omak kept that game close with a long pass play that set up C.J. Lockwood for a touchdown on a one yard rushing play. Omak’s after point attempt was good. Several minutes later, Derrick Talley broke free for a 35 yard run that scored Chelan’s third touchdown of the evening. Adam Hendricks recovered the kickoff with 3:25 left in the game which set up the Goats last offense of the first half and with 32 seconds remaining, Gage Schmidt took the ball in for Chelan’s fourth touchdown of the game.

Chelan went to the locker room leading the Pioneer comfortably 27-7, which gave the Homecoming crowd a lot to feel good about.

In the third quarter, it was Cole Soreano turn to score with 8:52 on the clock. The two point conversion was good and Chelan was solidly in the lead 35-7. Omak came back with 5:16 to play in the third and scored their second touchdown on a nine yard rushing play by Lockwood.

Derrick Talley scored one more touchdown in the third quarter on a beautiful 58-yard pass play by Joe Harris. By the end of the third, Chelan was out in front 41-14.

One more touchdown on a six yard Talley carry in the fourth quarter put the final touches on an outstanding Homecoming Game for the Chelan Goats. “It was one more in the books for us,” said Coach Talley. “This season has been a magical ride for our players, coaches and fans.”

“In the end, a lot of our young players got some time,” stated Talley.

One more in the books for Chelan.  This season has been a magical ride for our players, coaches, and fans.  We knew coming into the Omak game that they were riding high.  They had just beaten Okanogan soundly and had aspirations of doing the same to us.  After the first half of play with Chelan up 27 - 7 we felt a little more comfortable and after the 3rd quarter ended the Goats had a comfortable lead 41 - 14.  In the end a lot of young players got some time and the bell was rung signaling one more victory.

Chelan faces its toughest contest this coming Thursday night in Cashmere when the Goats and Bulldogs face off. The Bulldogs still own the shoe, but this team has a good chance of returning it to the Chelan Trophy Shelf this year.
