Chelan avenges loss against Cashmere
By Richard Uhlhorn
Cashmere has been the only team in league to beat Chelan this year, and that was done early in the season when both teams were struggling to find their game.
On Tuesday, February 3, on Cashmereís home court, the Goats solidly avenged that earlier loss by defeating their arch rivals 76-62 in front of a packed gymnasium.
Once again Joe Harris was on top of his game scoring a game high 30 points, pulling down six rebounds and dishing out five assists. He added three steals and one block to his totals and was 2 for 3 from beyond the three point line.
Aaron McQuaid had an easy time scoring in the early going as Harris fed him the ball under the basket for the easy layup. Mat Engstrom continued to do the job he is so good at, pulling down nine rebounds, putting in 6 for 9 from the field and dishing out three assists of his own.
Chelan jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter of play 22-10 and that was a good thing for the Goats as Cashmere adjusted their game to play well for the rest of the game and outscoring Chelan in both the second and third quarters. The first quarter edge kept Chelan in front however, and in the fourth quarter, both Mat Engstrom and Joe Harris came back into the game after sitting out much of the third quarter in foul trouble.
With the Goats leading by 10 with to play, Cashmereís Pedro Farias and Mat Taylor were hot from beyond the three point line bringing Cashmere dangerously close taking over control from Chelan. With the score sitting in Chelanís favor 58-55, Harris got a fast break and hit a field goal and then dished off an assist to Aaron McQuaid to take Chelan back out to a 62-55 lead.
With 58 seconds remaining, Cashmere was down six points and both Joe Harris and Julio Juarez went to the free throw line to extend Chelanís lead. McQuaid socred on a rebound an the game ended with Chelan victorious 76-62.
Chelan heads to Omak on Saturday night to take on the Pioneers.
