Comments from Coach Talley
Chelan 55 - Lake Roosevelt 15
Offensively our team immediately exploded upon on a very worthy opponent in Lake Roosevelt.
LR will probably be the largest line of scrimmage we will face in our league this year, and our boys up front worked their tails off to open great holes. You know your line of scrimmage is winning the battle when all the starting backs in the backfield average over 10 yards per carry for the night.
We have the speed of Derrick Talley and Greg Schultz outside and the bruising power up the middle of Cole Soreano, and Gage Schmidt. Our starting backs didn't get to carry the ball much in the second half, but they had fun cheering on our younger JV players who played part of the third quarter and all of the fourth quarter.
Seeing our younger running backs of Matt Pittsinger and Alby Paz each score a touch down was awesome.
It was one of those great nights when everyone on our team got to share in the fun.
Defensively our team is on a mission to hold the opponent from scoring. Our defensive scheme has allowed our players to run to the ball. In fact is a race to see who is going to get there first.
Great efforts were made again by our line of scrimmage guys of Doug Ramsey, Gary Morgan, Colter Courtney, Quin Courtney, Ryan Sargent, and Will Nielsen battling that huge LR offensive line.
We are blessed with the ability to spell our big guys with another D lineman once in awhile for a quick rest. That also, give the opponent a different type of battle, too. Our linebackers both inside (Davey Anderson, Sean Gervais, Matt Pittsinger, Alby Paz) and outside (Gage Schmidt, Reece McClelland, Rhett Beauregard, Jaime Guerrero, Adam Hendricks) were stellar with a ton of tackles on the night.
Greg Schultz and Derrick Talley did a great job taking on anything that slipped through the front and both had good nights tackling some fast backs of the Raider Offense. I do want to complement our JV team for almost holding LR's varsity offense scoreless only giving up one touchdown with 19 seconds left in the game.
Special Teams may be the biggest difference in our team this year. We have been great in every facet so far this year. Every time they take the field we wait for something magical to happen. The expectation is that someone is going to make a big play, and so far we haven't been disappointed.
Two people have to be mentioned on Kick Off this week are Jaime Guerrero and Matt Pittsinger for their aggressive down field tackling. It's a beautiful event within the show.
