The Chelan Goat baseball team has done well so far this year and are looking at the playoff picture in May. This is a team photo taken last Saturday.

 

Goats go extra innings with Brewster

The Chelan Goat Baseball team traveled to Brewster to take on the Bears in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25 and ended up splitting the wins with Brewster taking the opener 3-2 in eight hard fought innings and the Goats winning the nightcap 4-3 in nine innings of play.

 

In the opener, Josh Burbery went the distance, giving up five hits, no walks and striking out seven. He allowed two runs in the opener.

 

It wasn't enough. Brewster's Eli Driessen also pitched a good game, giving up two runs on eight hits, striking out nine with no walks on his way to the extra inning game 3-2.

 

"We had seven runners in scoring position but couldn't get a hit when we needed it," said Coach Burbery.

 

Defensively, both teams played well, each giving up only three errror.

 

Offensively in game one, Kyle Nelson was 2-4; Adam Hendricks was 2-4; Jesse Quigley was 1-3; Josh Burbery was 1-4; Alex Brown was 1-4; and Niles Desmarias was 1-3.

 

In the nightcap, Alex Brown took the mound and pitched nine innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out nine and only walking one. "He pitched a gem of a game," said Burbery.

 

Stockton Taylor pitched eight innings for the Bears and also had a great game going eight innings and giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out six and walking one. Chinape came in for Brewster in relief in the ninth inning and the Goats scored its winning run off of him.

 

Chelan only committed two errors in the nightcap.

 

"Offensively Adam Hendricks led all hitters going 4-4 in this game (and 6-8 for the day)," said Burbery.  Jesse Quigley was 2-5; Greg Schultz was 1-4; and Evan Reister was  1-4.

 

This coming week Chelan's  JV will take the field on Tuesday against Quincy @ 4:00 at home, and the Varsity will take on Okanogan on Saturday, May 2 for a double header at home starting at 11 a.m.
