Fifty-nine boys and one girl turned out for Chelan’s first Youth Football League which is part of an expanded league in North Central Washington. On Wednesday, September 5, these young football players were busy learning the basics of offense and defense. The league is geared towards 8-12 year olds.

Expanded youth football league draws 500 players in NCW… Chelan’s group is 59 strong

According to Grace McClellan who gave us this story about Chelan’s newest football league, the turn-out was way, way beyond expectations. “We initially thought 50 would be a high number to cushion our fundraising goals,” she wrote. “But it so happens that we now have 59 young boys and a girl from Chelan and Manson, along with many volunteer coaches and parents that are helping make this happen.”

The Youth Football League is expanded from the Eastmont Youth Football League which had an estimated 250 to 300 kids in it last year. With the expansion that includes Chelan, Leavenworth, Brewster and other NCW towns, the league has grown to over 500 young football players. “With the increase in the number of kids who turned out, we could use more support in making sure our kids have all the equipment they need,” wrote McClellan.

Sponsorships are available and all sponsors will be included on a large banner during games which will take place on Saturdays. Sponsors can get involved at $100 or more or by giving in-kind services like Jim’s Pumping Service did by donating Porta-Potties.

Currently, the Chelan Rotary Club; Chelan Fresh Marketing; Cast Gold Restorations, Inc.; The McNaughton Group; A&J Mini Storage; Lake Chelan Building Supply; Jim’s Pumping Service; Lake Chelan Properties; Wilbur Ellis; and Wells Fargo Bank have signed on.

This coming Saturday, a football jamboree will be held in Wenatchee at the high school. Chelan’s first game will be played at the Chelan High School football field at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 15.

On Saturday, September 22 , all teams will be in Chelan beginning at 11 a.m. at the football field.

“It would be awesome if the community could come out and support these young football players,” McClellan stated in a telephone conversation.
