Alisha Love pumped in 10 points against the Pateros Nannies to help the Lady Goats take third place in the Chelan Holiday Hoops Tournament.
Lady Goats prevail and take third place
in Chelan Tourney
by Richard Uhlhorn
“We will take this tournament as a learning experience,” stated Coach Dane Lewman after his team placed third in the Chelan Holiday Hoops Tournament Friday afternoon after defeating Pateros 53-25. His comment about learning from the experience was directed at his team’s inability to break LaSalle’s full-court press on Friday. LaSalle went on to become the girls’ tournament champions. “LaSalle is a great team. We have to improve on our intensity to get to that level,” he said.
Chelan was missing the services of Izzy Barth who sustained an ankle injury against Brewster and isn’t expected back until the middle of January. Several people at the tournament commented that the absence of Barth on the court hurt the Goats.
Chelan allowed 44 turnovers against LaSalle and another 21 against the Pateros Nannies. It is a problem that Coach Lewman plans on addressing in the coming weeks along with running some practices against the press.
It didn’t hurt them against Pateros, however. Chelan put immediate pressure on the Nannies and disrupted their offensive game, allowing Chelan to jump to an early lead 14-6. By the end of the first half, Chelan had a commanding lead over the Nannies and went to the locker room enjoying a 29-10 advantage.
In the third quarter of play, Chelan held the Nannies to only two points while scoring another 12 of their own. Coach Lewman played his bench in the fourth and Pateros outscored Chelan 12-12, but it was too little, too late for the Nannies who ended up losing this game 53-25 and taking home fifth place from the tournament.
