Chelan Goats win the Cashmere Invitational
By Richard Uhlhorn
It was a great weekend for the Chelan Goat Wrestling Team. On Saturday, December 15, the team churned through 11 other wrestling teams at the Cashmere Invitational and came home with the first place trophy. “It was a great tournament,” said Coach Jay McGuffin on Monday morning.
Chelan could have lost this tournament, but a Forks wrestler lost his composure and got thrown out of the tournament, losing Forks eight points. Chelan ended up winning by 12 team points. “That’s wrestling,” said McGuffin. “It’s important to keep your composure and not get mad.”
Chelan wrestlers faced off with wrestlers from Quincy, Mt.Baker, Royal, Forks, LakeRoosevelt, Omak, Cascade, Cashmere, Granger, Sultan and another team McGuffin can’t remember.
Cashmere Invitational results:

Tyler Allen 1st at 145

Tyler Clark 5th at 152

The Chelan Wrestling Team has several goals this year. They want to bring home hardware from the State Tournament which means that each wrestler has to battle for that individual slot at the tournament. The more wrestlers you have qualifying, the better your chances are for team hardware.
Coach McGuffin and the wrestlers also want to see both sides of the Chelan gymnasium filled up with fans this year. “Make it a goal to come out and get crazy at a home wrestling match,” said McGuffin.
Your chance to do this is this Tuesday evening, December 18, beginning at in the Chelan High School Gymnasium when Chelan faces off on the mat against the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions. The Mountain Lions always have a strong wrestling team, so this should make for some great competition for the Goat wrestlers.
Chelan will travel to Cashmere on Thursday which should also be a tough match for the Goats.
Also, if you happen to see any of the Chelan wrestlers, don’t hesitate to congratulate them on a great season so far.
We are currently waiting on a photo of the team with their first place trophy at the Cashmere Invitational. As soon as GoLakeChelan can round one up, we’ll post it.
