Chelan Goats continue winning ways with victories

over Cashmere and Okanogan

by Richard Uhlhorn

The Chelan Goats came home to host the Okanogan Bulldogs on Saturday evening, January 5, after winning on the road in Cashmere Friday night.

It didn’t take long for the Goats to establish their aggressive offensive and defensive game against the Bulldogs. Chelan began forcing turnovers and getting the fast break working for them and were up 11-2 at the mid point of the first quarter. By the end of the quarter, the Goats were solidly in the lead 19-4.

The Okanogan coach was clearly not happy with the way his team was executing their game. At the mid point of the second quarter, Okanogan had only been able to add one point to the scoreboard, but by the end of the first half, they had scored another 18 points.

Chelan continued to pour on the offensive scoring show in the second quarter, outscoring Okanogan 27-19. Brett Linehan, Joe Harris were scoring at will.

After the break Chelan continued its scoring ways, never allowing Okanogan to get back into the game. When it was all over, Chelan enjoyed an 89 to 41 victory.

Brett Linehan and Joe Harris were able to score at will. Harris also dished out seven assists. His passes are so deceptive one never knows if he’s going to give up the shot or take it. Also in double figures on the night were Cam Reister (10 points), Derrick Talley (10 points)  and Zane Sandum with 13 points.

Okanogan fans were increasingly upset with the referees and everyone was getting tired of the constant whistle blowing which extended this game until 10 p.m. Neither team really got into a flow because of the fouls… Okanogan accumulating 31 and Chelan chalking up 22 with Sandum checking out in the fourth quarter with seven minutes to play.

Okanogan was called for a technical foul in the third quarter when a player became frustrated.

Chelan hosts Cascade on Tuesday, January 8, beginning at 8 p.m.
