“They are tough,” said Coach Joe Harris prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Cascade Kodiaks. Cascade was every bit as tough as Coach Harris thought they would be. Towards the end of the fourth quarter, Cascade got to within three points of the Goats before the clock ran out on them. Chelan was able to add to its score in the remaining minute from the free throw line.
Cameron Reister got things going at the beginning of the first quarter with a three point shot and then followed with a field goal and foul shot to put Chelan up 6-0. With remaining in the first quarter, Chelan was holding on to a 10-6 lead when Coach Harris called a timeout. From that point on to the end of the quarter, Chelan adjusted and added seven more points to lead 17-6 and that was the real difference in this game because Cascade outscored Chelan in all three of the remaining quarters.
Cascade continued to play tough in the second quarter but were not making their shots, hitting only 7-23 in the first half which was still enough to outscore Chelan 9-8. Chelan went into the break with a 10 point lead 25-15.
Cascade continued to outscore Chelan in the third quarter drawing to within eight points of the Goats going into the final period of play. The fourth period had the Kodiaks pulling to within three points before the clock began to run out on them and they resorted to fouling in hopes of getting the ball back. Chelan added four points from the free-throw line to end this game with a close victory that had Coach Harris rolling his eyes afterwards.
Leading the Goats to the victory was Joe Harris with 25 points, two rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal.
Zane Sandum was tough under the basket, pulling down seven defensive rebounds for a total of eight and he also scored nine points. Cam Reister scored six of this eight at the beginning of the game, but never got a chance to really shoot again. Mat Engstrom had six rebounds and seven points. Brett Linehan was held to only four points, but pulled down seven defensive rebounds.
Cascade turned the ball over 16 times to Chelan’s nine turnovers. Cascade out-rebounded Chelan 27-24 and blocked the ball eight times.
Chelan travels to LakeRoosevelt on Friday to take on a very hot Raider team. “It’s always hard to play up there,” stated Coach Harris. The Raiders are 10-1 on the season, so it will be a great test for the Chelan Goats.
