By Richard Uhlhorn
Chelan’s Lady Goats played two league games this past week, losing a close one to the Cascade Kodiaks, 2-3 on Thursday and then traveling to Okanogan on Saturday and winning both games of the doubleheader, 9-7 (second game score not reported).
On Thursday, Cascade came to Chelan in a game Coach Barker knew would be tough. “This will probably be our toughest game this year,” he said prior to the game.
Chelan scored one run early and Cascade tied it up in the top of the third inning. Chelan then went ahead in the bottom of the third 2-1 and that’s where the game stayed until Cascade was able to score two on several errors in the top of the fifth to take the lead.
“We left the tying run on third base in the bottom of the seventh,” stated Coach Jeff Barker. “We had three errors that hurt us and some base running errors in the first inning that cost us some runs.” Offensively, Chelan out hit Cascade nine to five, but couldn’t put the hits together. Kilee Lippincott had the only multi hit game going with 2-for 4.
Kim Harter pitched a full game, giving up only three runs with only one of them earned on five hits, eight strikeouts and three walks. “Cascade played a great game with only one error and zero walks.
In Okanogan on Saturday, AnnAlise Nelson pitched the entire first game, giving up seven runs with only four of those earned on eight hits. She had nine strikeouts and three walks. Anna Pickett was behind the plate and threw out all attempted base stealers. The team still has a few missed plays for two errors. Chelan won this game 9-7.
Offensively, the Lady Goats came up with nine hits with Pickett going 2 for 3, Kim Harter going 2 for 4, JoLynn Williams 2 for 3 and Lyndsey Fox 1 for 3 with an RBI double.
In game two, Coach Barker reported that the girls came out and played the way they played at State last year. “We were strong defensively,” said Barker. “Our bats exploded for 10 hits in four innings with two homeruns and a triple.” The defense had no errors.
Kim Harter pitched a one hit shutout, striking out nine with no walks. Offesively, Kilee Lippincott was 1 for 3 with a two run home run. Anna Pickett and Jamie Brunner were both 2 for 3. Kim Harter was 1 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs. Meisha Moro was 1 for 3 with a triple and JoLynn Williams was 1 for 2. Lyndsey Fox went 2 for 2 and scored two runs.
The Goats are now 3 & 1 overall and 2 & 1 in League.
Chelan travels to Cashmere on Tuesday, March 25 and Liberty Bell on March 28 and will return home on Tuesday, April 8, to host the Cashmere Lady Bulldogs.
