It was a great opener last Saturday, March 15, as the Lady Goats hosted Cle Elum under partly cloudy skies. Chelan came out swinging and by the top of the fifth inning, were in the lead 9-0. They went on to win this opening game 14-3.
AnnAlise Nelson threw the first three innings and the last 1 1/3 inning with Kim Harter sharing the mound in the middle of the game. Harter had already impressed some Cle Elum parents with her offensive hits and when she started throwing, one said to the other after watching her warm-up pitches. “I hope she doesn’t have any control.” Two strikes later he was overheard saying, “Oboy, we’re in trouble!”
Unfortunately, Harter gave up three runs on zero hits, five strikeouts and six walks, before Coach Jeff Barker took her out and put Nelson back on the mound.
Cle Elum’s defense struggled against the Chelan girls. Harter was 3 for 4 with four RBIs on a double and a triple and was followed by Taylor McClellan off the bench who went 2 for 2 with a two run RBI.
Catcher Anna Pickett was 2 for 4 with a three run RBI double. Jamie Brunner was 2 for 4 with a double and Kilee Lippincott was also 2 for 4 at the plate. Alisha Love, JoLynn Williams, and AnnAlise Nelson all went 1 for 2 at the plate.
Chelan’s only freshman player, Lyndsey Fox had and interesting outing offensively, drawing two walks and getting hit by a pitch. She came across the plate twice for Chelan.
Chelan jumps right into league action at Thursday afternoon at home when the Cascade Kodiaks come to town. “This will be our stiffest competition this year,” stated Coach Jeff Barker.
