Lady Goats
On Tuesday January 29th the Chelan girls and boys basketball teams traveled to Cascade for a double header against their Caribou Trail League rivals, the Cascade Kodiaks. The Goats came away from this contest with a 73-39 victory to stay in a tie with the Brewster Bears.

The girls’ game was well played by the Lady Goats. In the first half the Lady Goats lead the game 32-15 against the Lady Kodiaks.

The Lady Goats really focused on their offense taking time to take shots and working well toward the inside. This was an excellent strategy as Kim Harter and Alisha Love dominated the scoring for the Lady Goats. Izzy Barth was able to pull down many rebounds in the first half stretching her long flexible arms over the Lady Kodiaks.

In the second half for the Lady Goats they continued to work the ball around and getting it to the inside. Jamie Brunner played a great second half taking shots as often as she could and was able to make the majority of them. Darby Jenkins and Sydney Austin each had a few quick steals that went down the court to set up the team into scoring position. Katelyn Peer and Taylor McClellan played good defense and did a great job on getting the rebounds for the Lady Goats.

Point totals for the team were as follows: Alisha Love - 31 points, Darby Jenkins - 11 points, Jamie Brunner - 10 points, Kim Harter - 7 points, Izzy Barth - 4 points, Sydney Austin - 4 points, Kristen Milliette -3 points, Katelyn Peer - 2 points, Taylor McClellan 1 1 point.

Goats
For the boys it was a wild one. From the beginning of the game all of the fans from both sides were building emotions for their teams. It was a game that Chelan came out on top of, but it was tough. Chelan walked away with a 56-51 victory to stay on top of the CTL.

The first half was a scrap fight as both teams played hard defense. Joe Harris sparked things up for the Goats as he made the first basket of the game and played a great first half offensively and defensively. Cam Reister turned the spark into a flame after making the second basket which was a three point shot. He also played well in the first half on both sides of the ball to help the team stay balanced. The score at the end of the first half was a 26-22.

In the second half the boys kept up their usual fast paced offense which helped the Goats get quick points from the inside thanks to the terrific trio of Mat Engstrom, Derrick Talley and Zane Sandum. Spicing things up as well were Brett Linehan and Julio Juarez as they both were able to make a few baskets. Danny Zavala played a great game defensively as he didn’t let up his guard against the guy he was covering.

The Goats had a pretty close lead at the end and then things got really interesting. With the game already close the Goats committed two technical fouls, one was on Matt Engstrom and the other was on Zane Sandum. This caused both players to foul out. Fortunately for the Goats, Cascade made about half of their free throws. As a result the Chelan Goats won in a close game; the final score was 56-51 over the Kodiaks.

Leading the Goats in points was Joe Harris with 16 followed by Cam Reister with 13 points. Harris also pulled down seven rebounds, dished out five assists, had one block and stole the ball four times.
